Many people travel south during this time of year. They’re often called “snow birds”. They may be going for a short trip or a few months. It may be to head to warmer climates.
Anytime you are traveling out of your home state you want to make sure that your Healthcare legal documents work outside of your home State. In other words, does your loved one have legal authority to authorize medical treatment on your behalf in the event you are out-of-state and become ill? Do they have the legal authority to transport you home, or to another hospital if they think it’s in your best interest and you are unable to say you want that done? You may be unconscious at this time due to illness or injury.
Many Estate Plans are only using State specific healthcare legal documents that only authorize medical treatment in the State you live in. Almost all of us travel out-of-state. Here in Western North Carolina we are closer to 3 other State’s capitals than our own. If you travel anywhere north, south or west for an hour and a half you will be in a State other than North Carolina.
When we do our Customized Protective Estate Plan™ we use Healthcare powers and other legal documents that cross State lines well. Therefore you will be in a position to help your loved ones authorize medical treatment on your behalf if you are away from home.
At the Law Firm of Steven Andrew Jackson, Attorney and Counsellor at Law, we have helped hundreds of families protect themselves and their loved ones, avoid Estate Taxes and Probate Costs, and keep their Estate Plans current with the law through The Customized Protective Estate Planning Solution™.
