Lou Anne said that she felt like she was “drowning” when she took over the heavy duties of caring for her husband George during his periods of illnesses. She did this on top of taking care of their farm (which George had done) and her other responsibilities. George and Lou Anne were both in their eighties and their energy and stamina was not what it had been when they were in their twenties. Fortunately their very competent and very loyal daughter Georganna was able to step up to help as co-trustee on his Living Trust and as an alternative Health Care Power authorizing Georganna to make health care decisions when her mother was unable to do so. They were also able to add Georganna’s brother as another Health Care Agent as some of George’s hospitalizations were closer to the brother’s home in another part of the state.
Lou Anne’s trusted and very competent adult children were able to shoulder some of the heavy load during the most difficult times during George’s many illnesses.
