As Valentine’s Day nears we think about “Who do I love?”
Estate Planning is all about “Who do I love?”
People do Estate Planning because they love someone or something. Whether that love is in the form of affection, respect, validation, encouragement, support, opportunity, friendship, goodwill, charity, or whatever other form “love” may take. Someone leaves their “Life’s Work™”, or whatever they own, to certain people, charities or even their favorite pets. They take the time and effort to do this so that they are providing for that loved one, whether it’s a person or furry pet. They are trying to leave a “Legacy” for their loved ones. The “Legacy” can also be in the form of creating a charity, helping a charity, or being charitable by leaving what they own for someone or something less privileged or for those who have had less opportunity. It can definitely be a “hand up”.
If you care about someone or something, make sure that you show that in having your proper Estate Plan prepared by an experienced Estate Planning attorney.
