There is a poem that starts “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying;” The poem refers to how quickly life is moving and how quickly time is passing. My Dad would say “The older we get, the faster time moves”. I did not really understand that until I got into my fifties. Then we start to realize how quickly life is moving.
There are so many things we want to do during our life while we are able – experiences we want to share with friends, traveling, exploring, reading, growing, and being with loved ones. For us to take advantage of this speeding time we need to take action. We also need to plan.
Part of our planning needs to include the future, including our Estate Planning. Do we have a Living Trust, aka Family Trust, aka Revocable Living Trust in place? Do we have a current Will? Do we have Health Care Powers so that our loved ones can handle our medical care if we become sick? Do we have a Living Will so that we are not warehoused on a ventilator if we are brain dead? Are there Health Care Designations so that our loved ones have access to medical information?
We need to plan, not only to take action in life, but to take action in the event we become ill. Also for the inevitability of when our life ends.
We take this action for our loved ones to make their lives easier by making it easier for them to help us when we become sick or pass on.
“Time marches on.” “Time waits for no one.” Life is racing by and we need to seize the beautiful moments. We also need to take action to protect ourselves in the event we become sick and prepare to help our loved ones in the event of our decline and our inevitable passing.
