On Halloween night parents and their children will go out, after dark, by foot, going from house to house, ringing doorbells and saying “Trick or Treat”. They are seeking candy and are in costumes that often cover their faces and are often dark colored. If the parents are going with them I’m always surprised that the parents are not all wearing bright colored clothes and all carrying flashlights. The goal is to have fun, but also do it safely.
People continue to drive their automobiles after dark while these young children are excitedly darting back and forth across the streets often forgetting about safety.
If you are a driver do be careful and go extra slow watching for children or even teenagers and adults in costumes. If you are a parent accompanying your child please consider wearing reflective clothing and carrying flashlights so that you are more easily spotted and also to help your children navigate stairs, sidewalks and other uneven surfaces.
